What is Counselling?

Counselling is a collaborative process where individuals can explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours in a safe, non-judgmental environment. It's a therapeutic journey that aims to help you understand and manage life's challenges, improve emotional well-being, and develop healthier coping mechanisms. Counselling provides a space to gain insights, resolve personal issues, and work towards achieving your goals.

How Does Counselling Work?

Counselling begins with an initial assessment, where we discuss your concerns, background, and what you hope to achieve from therapy. This helps in tailoring the sessions to your specific needs. As an integrative counsellor, I draw from various therapeutic approaches, blending techniques to suit your unique situation. This may include cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), psychodynamic approaches, humanistic methods, and creative techniques like art or narrative therapy.

During each session, which lasts 60 minutes, we will work together to explore your issues, identify patterns, and develop strategies for change. The process is collaborative, meaning we work as a team, with you taking an active role in your healing journey. The frequency of sessions can vary based on your needs and preferences, but they typically occur on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.

My goal is to empower you with the tools and insights needed to lead a more fulfilling and balanced life.

Counselling for Young People

As an integrative creative counsellor, I am deeply passionate about working with young people and believe in the power of creativity and tailored approaches to help each individual thrive. I support children and young adults aged 9-18, providing a compassionate, understanding, and personalized counselling experience.

With extensive experience working in a high school setting, I draw from a variety of therapeutic techniques to meet the unique needs of each young client. Incorporating creative methods such as art, music, storytelling, and sand tray therapy into our sessions can provide a safe and expressive outlet for emotions, making the therapeutic process engaging and effective. My sessions are always full of fun, ensuring that therapy is a positive and enjoyable experience.

Understanding and embracing neurodiversity is at the heart of my practice. As someone with dyslexia, I have a personal insight into the challenges and strengths that come with it. This first hand experience allows me to connect with and support young people who have dyslexia or other learning differences, offering them strategies and encouragement tailored to their specific needs.

In our sessions, young people will find a safe space to explore their feelings, build resilience, and develop new coping skills. I am dedicated to fostering an environment of trust and respect, where each young person feels heard, valued, and empowered.

I also incorporate animal-assisted therapy into my practice with the help of my therapy dog, Izzy, and therapy domestic rat, Cocco. They provide additional comfort and support during sessions, helping to create a calming and welcoming atmosphere.

Each session lasts up to 50 minutes, depending on the needs and comfort level of the child/young adult, ensuring that the time is used effectively and appropriately for their development. Thank you for considering my counselling services. I look forward to the opportunity to support young people on their journey toward growth and well-being. If you have any questions or would like to schedule a session, please feel free to reach out.
